Why Proper Eavestrough Systems Matter for Stony Plain Homes
Keeping water away from your home starts with a properly designed drainage system. Eavestroughs and downspouts work together to control rainwater and snowmelt before they can damage your foundation, roofline, or landscaping.
Foundation Protection
Stony Plain takes its name from glacial erratics scattered across the area — a sign of till deposition that produces variable lot drainage. Failing eavestroughs make that variability worse, pushing water straight at the foundation.
Roofline & Fascia Protection
When eavestroughs back-pitch or sag, water tracks behind the fascia and into soffit cavities. On the older High Park and Forest Green rooflines we service, that moisture damage spreads quickly along fascia runs.
Landscaping Preservation
Runoff from a failing system carves channels through Stony Plain flower beds, displaces mulch, and undermines the grading homeowners rely on to keep water moving away from the house.
Alberta Weather Durability
The Edmonton Stony Plain climate station is literally located here — the regional 124 cm snow and 366 mm rain normals are the town’s actual numbers. Our seamless systems are sized to handle that load and seasonal peaks.

Eavestrough Replacement
If your current system is rusted, failing, or constantly overflowing, we can replace it with a modern seamless eavestrough system built for long-term performance and cleaner aesthetics.
Downspout Extensions & Drainage Redirection
Proper downspout placement is critical for protecting your foundation. We install extensions and drainage solutions that direct water safely away from your home.
Gutter Guards & Routine Maintenance
Reduce debris buildup and improve year-round performance with gutter guards and routine cleaning services. Homes in mature Stony Plain neighbourhoods like High Park and Forest Green often benefit from added protection against leaves and debris.
Soffit & Fascia Services
Damaged soffit and fascia can affect ventilation, moisture control, and curb appeal. We provide complete soffit and fascia repair and replacement services to help protect your entire roofline system.
Common Eavestrough Problems We See in Stony Plain
Stony Plain’s glacial soil and mix of older and newer subdivisions produce a consistent set of eavestrough problems we see throughout the year:
- Pooling at the foundation on lots with shallow till drainage
- Overflow during heavy spring melt on south-facing roofs
- Ice damming where attic heat escapes through older eaves
- Sagging from accumulated snow on long roof runs
- Seam leaks on aging High Park sectional gutter systems
- Splash pad settling on newer Westerra or Genesis lots
- Downspouts that discharge too close to the foundation
- Fascia rot behind back-pitched or misaligned gutters
- Topsoil washout on graded but not-yet-settled new lots
- Debris from mature spruce and birch in older yards
Older Stony Plain neighbourhoods like High Park and Forest Green mostly need repair or replacement of aging sectional systems, while Westerra and Genesis on the Lakes properties more often need downspout and splash pad corrections as new lot grading settles.
Should You Repair or Replace Your Eavestroughs?
Not every drainage issue requires a full replacement. In many cases, targeted repairs can restore proper performance and extend the life of your current system.
Repair May Be the Right Option If:
- The problem is isolated to one section
- You have a minor leak or loose bracket
- The system is still structurally sound
- Drainage issues are caused by clogs or slope adjustments
- Damage is limited and repairable
Replacement Is Often Better If:
- Your system frequently overflows during storms
- Multiple sections are sagging or separating
- Rust or corrosion is widespread
- You have recurring leaks at seams and corners
- Downspout placement is ineffective throughout the property
- Your existing gutters are outdated sectional systems
How Our Eavestrough Installation Process Works
Every project starts with a detailed inspection of your eavestrough system, roofline, and how water actually moves around your property. We look for leaks, sag, slope issues, fascia damage, downspout problems, and overflow signs.
In Stony Plain we factor in the area’s glacial till soils, which can hold water in pockets and produce uneven lot drainage. That changes where downspouts need to discharge and how aggressively water needs to be moved away from the foundation.
From the inspection we recommend the right next step — repair, cleaning, drainage redirection, or full replacement.
Once the inspection is complete, we provide honest recommendations based on your home’s specific needs, layout, and budget. Some homes only require targeted repairs or slope adjustments, while others benefit from a complete seamless eavestrough replacement.
We explain:
- The condition of your current system
- Areas causing drainage problems
- Recommended repair or replacement options
- Material choices and system upgrades
- Downspout placement improvements
- Optional additions like gutter guards
- Estimated timelines and project costs
Our team takes the time to answer questions clearly so you understand exactly what work is being completed and why it matters for protecting your home.
Before installation or repairs begin, we carefully prepare the work area to help protect your home, landscaping, driveway, and exterior surfaces. Proper preparation helps ensure the project runs smoothly and safely from start to finish.
This stage may include:
- Securing ladders and safety equipment
- Removing damaged or outdated materials
- Protecting nearby landscaping and walkways
- Clearing debris and existing blockages
- Preparing fascia areas for new installation
If soffit or fascia damage is discovered during preparation, we address those issues before completing the new eavestrough installation to ensure the entire system functions properly.
Once preparation is complete, our crew begins the installation, replacement, or repair process using durable materials and proven installation methods designed for Alberta weather conditions.
For new installations, we custom-fit seamless aluminum eavestroughs to the exact measurements of your home. Proper slope and fastening are critical for efficient water flow, especially during heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt conditions.
Our installation process includes:
- Precision measurements for seamless fit
- Secure fastening for long-term durability
- Proper slope adjustment for water flow
- Sealed corners and joints to reduce leaks
- Strategic downspout placement for drainage efficiency
- Clean finishing for improved curb appeal
For repair projects, we restore proper function by repairing leaks, replacing damaged sections, correcting drainage issues, securing loose brackets, and improving water flow throughout the system.
After installation or repair, we walk every run again to confirm slope, water flow, fastener security, downspout positioning, and seam integrity meet our standards.
We also walk the project with you, answer questions, and leave maintenance recommendations tailored to your roofline and surrounding trees.
The result is a clean drainage system built to protect your Stony Plain home through Alberta winters, spring thaw, and summer storms — year after year.

Just had Cosy top off my attic to R60 with Weathershield insulation. The guys were on time and did a fantastic job. Before starting the job they went through the process with me and then proceeded with laying out plastic to protect my floors and walls. Once they stretched out the hose to pump the insulation through and sprayed the WeatherShield in the attic. After removing the blower hose, plastic and tools, the vacuumed their work area. in addition to energy savings we will receive, we have noticed a quieter upstairs from the sound damping effect from the extra insulation. Highly recommend this company. Thank you, Clarence SPosted on Google![]()

Mike and his team at Cosy Insulation truly impressed us with our attic insulation upgrade to an R-50 value using Weathershield™ loose-fill cellulose fiber insulation. Peter and Bruce, the installers, were not only friendly but also highly professional. They worked with remarkable efficiency and left the place spotless after the installation. Mike's pricing is very competitive, making Cosy Insulation an excellent choice for attic insulation upgrades. I highly recommend their services.Posted on Google![]()

Stony Plain Eavestrough FAQs
Simple explanations about eavestroughs, common problems, and how our team helps improve efficiency.
Common signs include sagging sections, rust, recurring leaks, overflow, and pooling at the foundation. In Stony Plain, lots with patchy glacial till soil tend to surface drainage problems sooner than well-drained lots — a failing eavestrough shows up as foundation moisture quickly. A professional inspection clarifies repair versus replacement.
Yes. Many leaking eavestrough systems can be repaired by sealing joints, replacing damaged sections, correcting slope issues, or securing loose brackets. Prompt repairs help prevent additional moisture damage to your fascia, siding, and foundation.
Yes. We install seamless aluminum eavestrough systems custom-fit to the exact measurements of your home. Seamless systems reduce the risk of leaks, improve water flow, and provide a cleaner appearance compared to traditional sectional gutters.
Most Stony Plain homes need cleaning twice a year — after spring melt and in late fall. Older yards in High Park and Forest Green with mature spruce or birch often need a third cleaning to clear late-fall debris before downspouts freeze.
Yes. Gutter guards help reduce debris buildup, improve drainage performance, and lower the frequency of cleanings. They are especially helpful for homes surrounded by trees or properties that regularly experience clogged gutters.
The Town of Stony Plain handles permits within town limits under its Building Permit Bylaw and current Land Use Bylaw, including the 4% Safety Code Levy. Properties immediately outside town limits go through Parkland County. Routine eavestrough replacement generally doesn’t need a permit, but related fascia or structural work might — we confirm jurisdiction on each project.
Seamless aluminum eavestrough systems typically last 20–30 years when properly installed and maintained. Alberta weather conditions, including snow loads and freeze-thaw cycles, can shorten the lifespan of poorly installed systems.
Yes. We provide complete soffit and fascia repair and replacement services as part of our exterior protection solutions. Damaged fascia can affect eavestrough performance and lead to additional moisture problems around the roofline.
Newer subdivisions in Stony Plain are graded just before possession, and the lot can settle measurably in the first few years. That changes how water leaves the property. The fix is usually downspout extensions and splash-pad repositioning rather than replacing the whole system.
Yes. Downspout extensions help direct water further away from your foundation and reduce the risk of pooling near your home. Proper drainage improvements are especially important during spring melt and heavy summer rainstorms.
